My story ‘The God on the Other Side of the Wall’ features in the Bridges not Borders Anthology by Write Beyond Borders, that includes the work of multiple authors.
‘The God on the Other Side Of The Wall’ traces the friendship between two young children- Nia and Ruby. Every day, the little girls gather around the hedge separating their two houses to play. When a war in a distant land erupts between two different faiths, their families support opposing sides jeopardizing their friendship. A wall is erected between the two houses driving a permanent wedge. While destructive rockets are launched in the faraway land, the little girls try to launch paper rockets over the wall to communicate. Nia just wants her God to be best friends with Ruby’s God so they can go back to how they were before and play with each other.
That shouldn’t be hard, right?
My story attempts to examine how a conflict is perceived through a lens of innocence and raises questions about the futility of an ideology skirmish, highlighting the plight of the innocents caught in between.
